Welcome to the Tri-Regional Infant Hearing Program serving York and Durham Regions, Peterborough, Northumberland and Haliburton Counties and the City of Kawartha Lakes.

Hearing screenings are provided for infants under the age of two months with the goal of identifying permanent hearing loss as early as possible. Early detection and intervention is critical for a child’s language development.

If a baby does not pass the screening, additional testing is available to determine whether a permanent hearing loss exists. If so, follow-up support is provided to connect families to resources that will help maximize their child’s communication abilities.

There is no charge for the hearing screen. This service is provided under the Ontario Infant Hearing Program which is funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.

A limited number of hearing screening clinics across our region are open. Families can self-book an appointment through the link below.

Please note, in light of recommendations from Public Health about the new Corona virus (COVID-19), you will be asked some questions about the current health and recent travel of you and your family before the hearing screen can be completed.

You and your baby must not be showing any symptoms of COVID-19, or have travelled outside of Canada, within the two weeks before your appointment. You also must not have been in close contact with someone with a suspected or confirmed case of COVID-19. If you develop symptoms or return from travel outside of Canada within the two weeks of your appointment, please follow the instructions in the confirmation email to reschedule your appointment.
